ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan saw another increase in petrol prices on October 6 following its daily fuel adjustment. The cost of petrol was raised by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. Conversely, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest change came after an October 3 decision that raised both key fuels. That earlier move set petrol at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel saw a marginal rise of Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that these adjustments reflected fluctuations in international fuel prices. The calculation incorporated international market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs. These factors remain central to Pakistan’s fuel pricing process. The increase on October 3 served as the base for the subsequent revision on October 6.
The decision on October 6 added Rs0.88 to petrol, raising the price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel reversed its previous gain, dropping from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with Rs100 per litre levied on high-speed diesel.
Daily fuel price adjustments are driven by global market movements
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the previous weekly revision schedule that started in March. This daily approach directly links domestic fuel prices to international market trends and other relevant factors. Prior to this change, fuel prices were reviewed less frequently over longer periods. The current system allows for different prices for petrol and diesel on the same day, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel decreased.
Even with recent adjustments, fuel prices are still below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel climbed to Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, and diesel was about Rs281 per litre before its rise. As of October 6, petrol remains Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel is Rs122.59 lower than its peak. Both fuels have significantly declined from their maximum levels in April.
Petrol increases while diesel decreases following October 3 revisions
Petrol is a common choice for private transportation, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. High-speed diesel primarily fuels heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. These products serve different sectors of the country’s energy and transportation needs. Both petrol and diesel are also Pakistan’s main sources of petroleum revenue based on sales volume. Recent price adjustments have caused these fuels to move in opposite directions on several occasions. On October 3, both prices went up, but on October 6, petrol rose again while diesel fell.
For October 6, petrol costs Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is Rs397.76. These rates replace the earlier levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. Since that date, petrol has gained Rs0.88, and diesel has decreased by Rs1.88. The latest figures continue the pattern of frequent daily changes seen in October, impacting motorists and commercial users alike.
