BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – On Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin. The conversation concentrated on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Germany in economic and developmental areas, while also addressing regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace, and security. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

The two officials explored avenues to deepen the strategic partnership and push forward collaborations across multiple sectors. Sheikh Abdullah characterized the UAE-Germany relationship as robust and enduring, emphasizing ongoing development. He highlighted their mutual dedication to building upon previous successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah shared perspectives on common concerns and diplomatic strategies for crisis resolution.

The extensive state visit added a new dimension to their bilateral ties. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the two announced the launch of a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform encompasses areas such as security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transportation, environment, culture, and education.

    Strategic dialogue enhances bilateral collaboration

Both governments endorsed initiatives like the German-UAE Investment Council to bolster engagement between public and private sectors. They welcomed the restart of the Joint Economic Committee and the results achieved through a bilateral business forum. The visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as stated in the joint declaration. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic ties extend further into energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration underscored ongoing and future projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also outlined plans for advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key areas for expanded cooperation.

Foreign ministers emphasize diplomacy and regional stability

During their Berlin discussions, the foreign ministers evaluated regional and global developments. They emphasized the importance of bolstering international efforts to sustain peace and stability, as well as safeguarding global security. The dialogue included the strategic use of diplomacy to manage crises, aligning with themes raised during the state visit. The German government had also listed Middle East peace and stability among the key topics for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their conversations integrated foreign policy, economic collaboration, and development within the framework of bilateral relations. The state visit linked these discussions with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific cooperation. These Berlin engagements represent the latest chapter in the longstanding UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004.
