CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has revealed the latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant upgrades to camera technology, performance, and battery life. The new devices showcase a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture, a first for the iPhone series. Both models are powered by the new A20 Pro processor and feature an improved thermal system design. Preorders will start on September 12, with retail launch scheduled for September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro now includes four selectable aperture options to optimize lighting and depth of field. Its primary camera supports f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0 apertures. Additionally, it is equipped with 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. New Pro controls allow users to fine-tune aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. Users can also monitor a histogram while framing photos or videos.

Apple introduces Reference Image, a feature that users can opt into to authenticate photographs. When capturing a photo in Reference mode, signed sensor data is recorded, creating a reference image that can be compared to an edited version in the Photos app. The company also plans to support image metadata and the SynthID standard, with SynthID support arriving via a software update later in 2026.

Variable aperture expands camera control options

The A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. It also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. Apple claims the GPU provides performance improvements of up to 40% over the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases surface area, enhancing sustained performance. The new models also incorporate Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity via Apple’s N1 wireless chip.

Battery life has also been extended across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Apple states that eSIM-only versions of the Pro can offer up to 36 hours of video playback. The Pro Max model can reach up to 45 hours under similar testing conditions. With compatible wired accessories, the iPhone 18 Pro can gain a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes. The removal of the physical SIM tray in eSIM-only models creates additional space for a larger battery, and these versions will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.

Siri AI Debuts with iOS 27

The new devices come preloaded with iOS 27 and support Siri AI through Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected to roll out in October. This software leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos to process requests and can also respond to on-screen content. Apple Intelligence relies on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available colors include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro is priced starting at AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales commencing on September 18. An additional 20 countries and regions are scheduled to receive the devices on September 25.
