Subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and Pro now have access to an enhanced GPT-5.6 Sol for routine conversations. Sol now powers both instant responses and more thorough reasoning for these users. OpenAI mentioned that this update yields more precise answers and minimizes unnecessary details when simpler responses suffice. Additionally, Plus and Pro members can utilize a reasoning slider across web, mobile, and desktop platforms, enabling them to control how much processing ChatGPT applies, especially for tasks involving research, planning, writing, or coding.
OpenAI also reported that factual accuracy improved based on internal testing. The evaluation focused on prompts related to finance, healthcare, and legal topics that demand accurate details. Responses with at least one factual error dropped about 62% with GPT-5.6 Luna compared to GPT-5.5 Instant. For GPT-5.6 Sol, the reduction was approximately 68%. The company added that the updated Sol model now handles dates, figures, sources, rules, and assumptions more reliably when these details influence the response.
Access Expansion Includes Safety and Tool Usage Limits
OpenAI stated that its latest models incorporate extra protections for users believed to be under 18. The systems are designed to avoid romantic roleplay, age-restricted challenges, and claims that could replace real-world relationships. The models also enforce age-specific boundaries related to sexual content, eating disorders, hazardous activities, restricted substances, and graphic violence. OpenAI added that it implemented new evaluations for responses involving younger users. The unlimited text feature will still operate within the company’s safeguards when it becomes accessible to Free and Go accounts.
This update applies specifically to the primary chat interface. OpenAI clarified that the GPT-5.6 Sol versions used in ChatGPT Work and Codex will not be affected by this release.
