Egypt and Al Dahra initiate a US$500 million wheat supply initiative

EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have activated a five-year agreement for wheat supply valued at up to US$500 million. This pact transitions a 2023 financing structure into a functional import arrangement for Egypt. Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC, financed through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The agreement sets out the process for purchases under that existing program.

The signing took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also chairs GASC, present at the ceremony. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, attended as well. The announcement did not specify wheat quantities, shipment schedules, origins, or the pricing terms for the purchases made under the agreement.

The financing arrangement originated in August 2023, when ADEX and Egyptian authorities established a revolving wheat import program. The program was set at US$100 million, with renewals each year over five years, totaling a potential US$500 million. Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance joined GASC in that initial setup. The 2026 supply agreement now provides the operational framework for GASC to purchase from Al Dahra via the financing scheme.

    2023 financing scheme becomes operational

ADEX, the export-financing arm of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offers financing linked to transactions with Emirati exporters. In 2023, the office announced that its Egypt facility would support wheat and other essential goods supplied through Al Dahra. This financing scheme established a five-year structure for those transactions with GASC. The current agreement maintains that framework while defining the operational terms for Al Dahra’s imported wheat supplies.

Al Dahra has maintained a presence in Egypt since 2007, operating farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating roughly 28,000 hectares within Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government over the previous three years. It also noted that its broader agricultural operations now serve more than 40 markets globally.

Al Dahra’s Egyptian activities began in 2007

The agreement signed in August 2026 pertains to imported wheat, although Al Dahra also produces agricultural commodities within Egypt. In 2023, the company described itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with about 85% of its Egyptian output sold locally. This new deal involves imported wheat supplied to GASC via the ADEX program rather than a separate US$500 million financing arrangement.

The five-year agreement enacts the financing framework announced three years prior, replacing the need for a second US$500 million facility. Neither Al Dahra nor GASC has disclosed the total wheat tonnage covered nor detailed the annual shipment schedule, supplier origins, or the pricing formula. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the current arrangement remains a five-year wheat supply program valued at up to US$500 million, financed through ADEX.
